On 23rd of April 2016 to mark the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, Wilderness of Tigers gathered at 10am to rehearse a special blink-and-you’ll-miss-it version of Shakespeare’s Scottish Play.
Under the codename Brief Candle, audience assembled at the main gate of the University of Glasgow at 8.50pm and were led up to the cloisters at the heart of the Gilbert Scott Building, at which point the Weyward Women emerged and the play began.
The players were as follows:
JOSH WHITELAW, DAVID RANKINE, MEGHAN TYLER, REBECCA LUMSDEN, TERENCE RAE, DANIEL CAMERON, JAMIE BUCHANAN, ALAN MACKENZIE, KIM ALLAN, REBECCA REEVES, TORI BURGESS, EUAN CUTHBERTSON, CHRIS DONALD, MATT SWIFT
A few of the many never-to-be-repeated moments you missed:
- Meghan Tyler’s Lady Macbeth picking up a discarded can of lager during “that which hath made them drunk hath made me bold”
- Josh Whitelaw’s Macbeth punting a water bottle towards a wall half-way through the final fight
- David Rankine’s Macduff pinning Chris Donald’s Ross up against one of the cloister pillars
- Kim Allan’s quick-change round a pillar from one role to another
Thanks to the Queen Margaret Union for rehearsal space during the day, to Daniel Portman for helping out with the development of the ambush, and to Matthew Thomas for documenting the day. Photos to follow.
